Jump for joy | Heugümper

Again, we found ourselves heading to the wonderful Münsterplatz and its venerable houses around it. This time, we had the great pleasure to enjoy a dinner at one of the oldest buildings in the city. This building is not only the home of the famous sports club “Grasshoppers Zürich” but also houses a top restaurant with 14 points by Gault Millau. Centrally located in the middle of Zurich between Paradeplatz and Münsterhof, the restaurant Heugümper welcomes guests from all over the world in a beautiful and classic ambiance. Due to its lower capacity, the restaurant Heugümper feels very comfortable and cosy. They have adapted the interior to fit the concept with a relaxed contemporary style, effectively combining modern and classical elements.

Location

Just as we came through the entrance, Marco, a very friendly and courteous service employee, welcomed us and guided us to our beautiful decorated table. After a glass of good white wine, we were ready to have a look at the menu. The selection is small but nice, offering market-fresh, Mediterranean-Asian dishes and bourgeois Swiss classics. To supplement the fine cuisine, they offer a wide range of carefully chosen wines. Our choice was made quickly: As a starter, we were craving for the Heugümper’s soup of the day (parsnip), with vegetable ricotta raviolis and the tagliatelle with black truffles.

Both dishes came very fast considering that their kitchen is rather small. By the way, the dishes are transported from the kitchen to the restaurant by a dumbwaiter, which is kinda cool. The starters tasted excellent and were of high quality. No penny-pinching with the truffle though.

For the main course, we ordered the veal cordon bleu rolled with truffle brie, country ham, seasonal vegetables and French fries and the bison ribeye (300g) with herb butter, leaf spinach and French fries.

This was once again the right choice and for sure the highlight of the evening. Perfectly roasted meat with incredibly yummy French fries. Absolute bliss! With full bellies and a lot of endorphins in our bodies, we could not resist to order something sweet to round off this cozy evening. We had to taste the Maracaibo chocolate cake “still runny in the middle” served with coconut sorbet.

Simply fantastic and nothing more to say.

The Heugümper team under the guidance of top chef Jérôme Ligneul attaches great importance to a loving preparation of the food. This dedication is definitely reflected in their dishes, which makes every visit to the Heugümper, wether for a business lunch or a sumptuous dinner, a truly unforgettable experience.
