Asian star│Mekong

Lucerne is not only one of the most famous touristic places in Switzerland, but is also not inferior in culinary terms. The restaurant Mekong is certainly one of the reasons why.

The Mekong offers aromatic and tasty dishes, exactly like they have traditionally been cooked for generations along the Mekong River. The Mekong lets you experience the whole range of Asian cuisine, starting from fantastic noodle soups and spicy curries to freshly prepared sushi and sashimi.

The menu presents a variety of highlights from different Asian countries. However, Western dishes can also be enjoyed, which are prepared with an exotic note. The European taste is taken into account, as they prepare their dishes not too spicy.

We were introduced to the Asian world with two yummy drinks: an Asian style Hugo and a Maracuja Sour. Both drinks tasted refreshing and extraordinary.

To begin with, we were served a Thai appetizer plate with satay skewers, coconut soup and fried shrimps as well as Som Tam, a typical Thai dish with Papaya salad. Everything was nicely arranged and tasted authentic.

For the main course, we ordered several different dishes. At first we tried the Angkor noodles. A taste combination of sweet and salty rounded off by a fine aromatic sauce.

The next dish already smelled heavenly on arrival at our table. Very tender and juicy spare ribs, which were glazed with a special Asian marinade. Absolutely dainty and definitely our favorite. Highly recommended.

The Mandalay curry came sensationally arranged and was a real eye candy. We knew that the way this dish looked, it would not disappoint us. It was simply delicious.

Also the Sushi plate "Sushi Mekong" was definitely worth seeing and fully convinced us by the fresh and good product quality.

In addition, we had the exclusive opportunity to test their NEW Ramen noodles, which will be available in their Coffee Shop at the end of April. Various ramen bowls such as curry ramen (vegetarian) or ramen with different meats will complete the current menu. Doesn’t that sound delightful? To all the ramen lovies out there: You must try it!

With extremely full bellies but with the thought of dessert going into another stomach, we could not resist to order something sweet. We tried the chocolate and the coconut mousse with passion fruit and fresh mango. A sweet blessing – see, it is always worth a try.

The symbiosis of Asian interior with subdued light exudes an unmistakable atmosphere. The very sophisticated style reflects a calm and composed temper. Delicious Asian specialties and the great service emphasize the successful concept of the restaurant. Definitely one of the best spots in Lucerne.
