We all know this: Your stomach rumbles but you don’t know where to eat, because it should be inexpensive but still tasty and on top of that happen in a hurry.
Finally, we found the solution to this well-known and hated problem hidden in a backyard near Central Station: Orient Catering!
Hard to find and very inconspicuously, this little takeaway shows how to properly prepare oriental mezze plates and dürüm. They come with either chicken, lamb or falafel and the latter being a real revelation. These are by far the best falafel we've ever eaten – crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and not dry at all!
It almost makes you forget that the rest on the plate also deserves an appreciation. Hummus, "Baba Ganoush" and "Muhammara", which is a dip of pepperoni, walnut and pomegranate goes perfectly with the tender and juicy meat or the crispy falafel. The vegetarian plate comes with fried vegetables on a lemon-garlic dressing.
Everything is lovingly and freshly prepared by hand according to a traditional recipe of Mohammed Kamelin, the production manager from Bethlehem.
Since Orient Catering only has a few tables and is popular with students, it is a good idea to come by on off-peak hours.
