All about beer | Brauerei Steinfels
At Zurich's oldest craft brewery, beer is celebrated at its finest. Since 2007, the Steinfels brewery has been brewing in the traditional way. The brewery is located behind large glass panels, directly in the associated restaurant Steinfels. The five fermentation tanks behind hold a total of 10'000 liters. From these, not only the five standard types of lager, wheat, pilsner, IPA and stout are produced, but also special seasonal beers. They also pay special attention to the malting barley, that's why it is malted by one of the most famous and renowned malting companies in the world, the Weyermann Malz.
Renovated in 2019, the brewery and the restaurant inspire thanks to the processed materials such as copper, wood and brick, with a cozy ambience in New York style.
At the Steinfels Brewery, they have set themselves the goal of combining beer with culinary delights to create a completely new experience. All marinades, sauces and burgers are homemade. The burger buns are baked daily by Hausbeck around the corner with the leftover malt from the brewery.
The menu is kept rather small and clear and the predominantly hearty dishes are intended to accompany the beer experience optimally. You can have specialties from their smoker or enjoy their classics like the homemade Pastrami Sandwich, which is even compared to the famous pastrami sandwich from the "Katz-Deli" in New York. At our tasting, it was indeed solid as a snack, but deviates greatly from the original in terms of meatyness, presentation and flavor.
Other offerings are for example grilled flat iron steak and prawns with fries or, if you prefer a healthier option, smörrebröd with home-smoked salmon. At Steinfels, the main focus is on the beer and the food should accompany it optimally.
The Steinfels is ideal for a social evening among friends or for a business event - visitors can experience live how the legendary Steinfels beer is brewed at their brewery tour.
